We're Merri and Perry Alexander, in Asheville, NC. In our mid-60s, we both still enjoy our respective careers and our good health. We each work, full time, from our home offices. Perry creates online, video, and traditional marketing for clients with his long-time business partner, Gary Hennerberg, in Dallas. Merri is a Presbyterian (PCUSA) minister, and develops outside business partnerships for Montreat Conference Center , creates the liturgy for weekly services at First Presbyterian Church in Asheville, and preaches from time to time at various Western North Carolina Presbyterian churches. We’re both photographers, and enjoy living among the biodiversity of the wooded mountains near Asheville.

This is our story of the process of building our new home—from finding the land, creating the design, choosing the builder, and actual construction. We’ve each been through the process in the past, but this is our first such project together. Our tastes and values are nicely aligned and our budget is far from unlimited. With the help of a few fine experts, and an eye toward resale-ability, we’ve designed our Green Building Council certified, 3,300-sq.-ft. home for the way we live. We've enjoyed the lead-up, and we're eager to get on with construction, this month. We expect to be moved in by Labor Day, 2016.

We’ll post progress photos and videos, along with our take on the process along the way, choosing resources, and working with designers, our builder, landscape contractor, and what we’ve learned along the way.
